Whilst large language models (LLMs) have broad general knowledge, small language models (SLMs) have specialised knowledge, such as domain-specific knowledge. They are less heavy on computational resources for training and for deployment.
An example of a SLM might be a healthcare SLM, trained specifically on medical data sets. Such a model would not require training on the entire internet in the way that a LLM would.
